For NRIs · renovating the family home
Renovating the family home in Bangalore, from abroad.
Upgrading your parents' house is the most personal project an NRI can take on, and the most delicate to run at a distance. We renovate family homes while the family keeps living in them: phased so nobody moves out, designed to be kinder to ageing parents, and reported to you every week so you see the house change from wherever you are.
Residence renovation, Bangalore
The real brief
Renovate the house without uprooting the family.
When you live abroad and your parents live in the family home, the renovation has three jobs at once: modernise a house that may be twenty or thirty years old, make it safer for parents as they age, and do all of it without asking them to leave a home they love. That is what we plan for from the first call.
- AOccupied, not emptied. We phase the work so a liveable part of the house is always available, with a working kitchen and bathroom throughout.
- BKinder as they age. Elder-friendly design built in quietly, so the home is safer without feeling clinical.
- CYou stay in the loop. Weekly photo and video reports and a written approval log mean you are never guessing what is happening at home.
How it works
A phased renovation, run remotely.
Survey the house
We measure and assess the existing home, wiring, plumbing, waterproofing and structure, and tell you what must be fixed underneath before new finishes.
Design & phasing plan
3D walkthroughs plus a phasing plan agreed over video, so you and your parents see the outcome and how life continues during the work.
Phased execution
One zone at a time. Noisy and dusty stages sequenced and scheduled around your parents, never all at once.
Weekly reports
Dated photos and video each week, stage sign-offs, and payments released only against verified progress.
Handover
Snag list cleared zone by zone, and a home that is renewed without ever having emptied it.
Elder-friendly design
Safer for ageing parents, without feeling clinical.
- Step-free thresholds where possible
Level access at entries and between rooms to reduce trips and falls.
- Grab support and non-slip bathrooms
Designed in discreetly so the bathroom is safe and still looks good.
- Bedroom and bathroom on the entry level
So stairs are optional, not a daily necessity.
- Better lighting and lever handles
Brighter, glare-free light and hardware that is easy on older hands.
- Services renewed, not covered over
Rewiring, plumbing and waterproofing put right before finishes.
- Vastu corrections on request
Planned into the same scope where the family wants them.
Keeping the memory
Renew the house without erasing it.
A family home is not a blank site. The mosaic floor, the courtyard, the teak doors, the corner where three generations have sat: these are the reason the renovation matters at all. We design the new work to hold on to them, not paper over them.
- AKeep what is loved. We identify the features worth preserving with you and your parents before we design anything new.
- BRestore, do not just replace. Old teak, stone and craft often become the anchor of the renewed home.
- CBridge old and new. Contemporary comfort and services, sitting comfortably alongside the parts that carry the family's history.
This is the same design intelligence we bring to every Bangalore home, applied to the one house that is hardest to get wrong.
Questions
Renovating the family home remotely.
Can you renovate my parents' house while they are still living in it? +
Yes, and this is the most common brief we get from NRIs. We phase the work so one part of the house stays liveable while another is being renovated, sequence the noisy and dusty stages, and plan a working kitchen and bathroom at every point. Nobody moves out unless you choose to. It takes longer than an empty-house renovation, but your parents keep their home the whole way through.
How do I manage a renovation in Bangalore from another country? +
The design, drawings, contractor tendering and supervision run remotely over video and a weekly report log. You approve the design and each stage in writing, and payments are released against verified progress. A trusted local person or power of attorney holder helps with signatures and access. We schedule updates in an IST-overlap window so calls are not at three in the morning your time.
What does elder-friendly design involve? +
It means designing so the home stays safe and easy for ageing parents: step-free thresholds where possible, grab support in bathrooms, non-slip flooring, better lighting, lever handles, a bedroom and full bathroom on the entry level, and wider clear widths. We build these in without making the house look like a hospital, because dignity and warmth matter as much as safety.
Do old Bangalore houses need structural or services work before finishes? +
Often yes. Homes built in the 1980s to early 2000s frequently need rewiring, plumbing renewal, waterproofing and sometimes structural assessment before you spend on new finishes. We survey the house first and tell you honestly what must be done underneath, so you are not putting new tiles over old problems. Any vastu corrections you want are planned into the same scope.
How long will a family home renovation take? +
It depends on the scope, the condition of the existing house and whether it is occupied during the work, which lengthens the programme because work is phased. We give you a stage-wise schedule at the start and update it in the weekly report. Occupied renovations trade speed for your parents never having to leave, and most clients consider that a fair exchange.
Can you keep the parts of the house that hold memories? +
Yes. Renovating a family home is not the same as erasing it. We work with you to keep the mosaic floor, the courtyard, the old teak doors or whatever carries the family's history, and design the new work to sit alongside it. Often the most loved features become the anchor of the renovated home rather than something we replace.
