A note from Ar. Pooja Kothari.
I started Aalekh because a home deserves an architect's judgement, not a template. We keep the studio small on purpose. I would rather review every project myself than run a factory that ships rooms.

- 2Indian design intelligence, made modern. Courtyards, jaalis and cross-ventilation are how a home stays cool in this climate. We use them where they earn their place.

Before you brief us.
Do you take on both interiors and full house design? +
Yes. Aalekh is architect-led, so we work across full-home interiors and ground-up residential architecture. Of the 24 projects we have delivered in four years, 20 are interiors and 4 are architecture. Some were run over video for owners living abroad. We brief them all the same way, with the Principal Architect on every project.
Where in Bangalore do you work? +
We work across the city and its edges. On the east and south east, that means Whitefield, Sarjapur Road and HSR Layout. In the south it means Jayanagar, JP Nagar and Koramangala. In the north it means Hebbal, Yelahanka, Devanahalli and Sadashivanagar. Our studio is in Basavanagudi, in South Bangalore, and we visit site through the project. Beyond the city we also take on homes across South India, and run them over video for owners living abroad.
Can you work with owners who live abroad? +
Yes. Many Bangalore homes are owned by families living in the US, UK, UAE, Singapore and Australia. We run projects over video, with weekly photo and video reports and 3D walkthroughs before any money is spent. You deal with a single point of contact. See our pages for NRIs for how that works.
Is the founder really involved in each project? +
Yes. Ar. Pooja Kothari, our Principal Architect and founder, reviews the design on every project before it is built. We keep the studio small and take on one project per designer at a time. That way judgement travels with the drawings.
Do you design vastu-compliant homes? +
When you want it, yes. We design vastu-compliant when that matters to you, and sun and wind first when it does not. We are honest about where the two agree and where a sensible trade-off is needed. Our design pages explain how we settle those conflicts without crippling the layout.
